Privacy Policy
Smidgovation LLC ("Smidgovation," "we," "our," or "us") operates mobile applications including Skutl and any other apps we publish (collectively, the "Apps"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding that information.
By downloading or using any of our Apps, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use our Apps.
1. Information We Collect
Account Information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Email address and password (or third-party authentication provider data such as Google Sign-In or Apple Sign-In)
- Display name and profile photo (if provided)
- Date of birth (to verify age eligibility)
User-Generated Content
Our Apps allow you to create and submit content, including:
- Photos and images
- Text submissions, captions, and responses
- Contest activity, scores, and results
- Comments and reactions
Usage and Activity Data
- Features and screens accessed
- Contest participation history
- In-app interactions and event timing
- Subscription and purchase history (we do not store payment card numbers)
Device and Technical Data
- Device model, operating system, and version
- Unique device identifiers
- App version and crash logs
- IP address and general geographic region
Location Data
Certain features (such as geo-based contests and scavenger hunts) require access to your device's location. We request your explicit permission before accessing location data. You may deny or revoke this permission in your device settings at any time. We do not share precise location data with third parties for advertising purposes.
Camera and Photos
Features that involve photo capture or media uploads require access to your camera and/or photo library. We request permission before accessing these resources, and you may revoke permission from your device settings.
Health Data (HealthKit)
On iOS devices, certain contest modes (such as step-count challenges) request read access to your step count data via Apple HealthKit. We use this data solely to calculate your contest score within the app. HealthKit data is not shared with third parties, is not used for advertising or marketing purposes, and is not sold. We do not write any data to HealthKit. You may revoke HealthKit access at any time in your iPhone's Settings > Privacy & Security > Health.
2. How We Use Your Information
- Operate and improve the Apps — enabling core features, debugging issues, and enhancing performance
- Personalization — showing relevant content, contests, and recommendations
- Communications — sending push notifications (with your permission), service-related emails, and important account notices
- Safety and moderation — detecting and preventing abuse, spam, and violations of our Terms of Service
- Analytics — understanding how users interact with the Apps so we can make them better
- Legal compliance — meeting our legal obligations under applicable law
- Payments — processing subscription and in-app transactions through Apple App Store or Google Play (we do not directly handle payment card information)
3. Information Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell your personal data.
We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
Service Providers
We use trusted third-party services to operate our Apps, including:
- Google Firebase — authentication, database (Firestore), file storage, and cloud functions
- Apple and Google — app distribution and in-app purchases
- Analytics providers — crash reporting and usage analytics (data is aggregated or pseudonymized)
- OpenAI — AI-powered features (only content you explicitly submit for AI processing is shared)
These providers are contractually obligated to protect your data and use it only to provide services on our behalf.
Legal Requirements
We may disclose information if required to do so by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Smidgovation, our users, or the public.
Business Transfers
In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent in-app notice before your data is subject to a different privacy policy.
Public Content
Content you choose to make public within our Apps (such as contest submissions in public contests) is visible to other users. Exercise caution when sharing personal details in public submissions.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at privacy@smidgovation.com. We will honor deletion requests within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
Aggregated or anonymized data that cannot reasonably identify you may be retained indefinitely for analytics and product improvement purposes.
5. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion — request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
- Portability — request your data in a portable, machine-readable format
- Opt-out of communications — unsubscribe from marketing emails or disable push notifications in your device settings at any time
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, you may withdraw it at any time without affecting the lawfulness of prior processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@smidgovation.com. We may need to verify your identity before fulfilling the request. We will respond within 30 days (or the period required by applicable law).
California Residents (CCPA): You have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request deletion, and to opt out of the "sale" of personal information. We do not sell personal information.
EEA/UK Residents (GDPR): Our legal bases for processing include performance of a contract (providing the App), legitimate interests (improving our services, security), consent (location access, push notifications), and legal obligation. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
6. Children's Privacy
Our Apps are not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without verified parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.

7. Security
We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS), access controls, and secure cloud infrastructure (Google Cloud / Firebase). No method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. In the event of a data breach that affects your personal data, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
8. Third-Party Links and Services
Our Apps may contain links to third-party websites or services. This Privacy Policy does not apply to those third parties. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you interact with.
9. International Data Transfers
Smidgovation is based in the United States. If you access our Apps from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. By using our Apps, you consent to such transfers in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, provide a more prominent notice (such as an in-app alert or email). Your continued use of our Apps after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
